The witch is in

When I went to Swiss Days, last month, the "hot item" seemed to be some cute decked out brooms. Every where you looked, there was a broom!
I didn't want to spend my money on a broom when I already had a broom and a witch hat at home. So, of course, I copied the idea and decked out my own broom.
Everyone knows that one of the main reasons to attend the Swiss Days is to copy ideas (so wrong!), and to partake of the awesome people watching. Oh yes, this year's Swiss Days events did not disappoint!

I bought my plain-old broom from Walmart a few years ago and painted the broom handle orange. Then I wrapped black electrical tape every 2 inches or so, from the top to the bottom of the handle. I then lightly spray-painted the bristles of the broom, black. I used a damp sea sponge, dipped in orange and black paint to lightly sponge paint the handle.

I purchased the witches hat last year and painted two orange stripes on the pointy part then used a sea sponge dipped in orange and glow in the dark paint to lightly sponge paint the hat.

This year, I added the orange and black tulle, the polka-dot ribbon/bow, then glued a bat ornament to the hat.

I found this cute, black and orange, beaded spider web at Tai Pan and the big spider at J&J Nursery! Could you just die at the cuteness!
Finally, I sewed a simple draw-string bag, and then glued AND sewed the "Potions" label on to the bag. I used some rubber stamps to make the word "Potions" on some Muslim then glued it onto a piece of burlap.
And there you have it, a semi-original Halloween decoration, from yours truly...Jen (a.k.a. plagiarist)

Halloween Happenings

Halloween this year was a hullabaloo of costumes, trick or treating, and candy!
To start the Halloween festivities off, we attended our ward's trunk or treat.

I tried to convince Cody to be a kitty cat this year, but he wasn't feeling it. I wasn't finished sewing his costume yet, so we stuck on his Captain Jack Sparrow costume on from last year.

Trunk or Treat is the event for me. We use to decorate the back of our truck with a 6' creepy paper mache tree that I made out of wood forms, chicken wire, craft paper, wall paper paste and paint. I made headstones out of Styrofoam and spread Spanish moss all over and made a graveyard. Ooooooooo spooky!

Watcha think of our haunted house? I designed it, Steve put it together, then I painted it and added the spooky elements. I love my haunted house. I wish I could move in to it.

Cody was given a pumpkin to carve for our little town's annual Pumpkin Walk. Can you guess what it is?

Roar!

Our mouse and his cheese.

Look at Cody taking all of the credit for carving this master piece for the Pumpkin Walk.

For crazy hair day, I thought it would be cool to make Cody's head into a jackolantern.

I sprayed on the orange hair spray a little too thick. His scalp is still bright orange.

On Halloween night, Cody ditched us for his friends. What? We aren't fun? Cody was going to be a ninja for Halloween. I spent 2 days sewing that stupid costume and because it was made for a giant sized 11 year old, it ended up looking like a ninja costume for an Oompa-Loompa. It was bad... so very bad. We ended up buying a gory skeleton thing with oozing fake blood. He makes us proud.

Conner endured another night of Halloween shenanigans. He raked in the candy. Good thing he doesn't have teeth yet. Yup, still no teeth.

I have great news people! No I'm not pregnant.

I have actually managed to post a total of... (drum roll please) 100 posts!!!!!

And in honor of the posting 100 posts tradition, I will be sharing 100 tid bits about moi. I know! Please contain your excitement.

One can only imagine what exciting ins and outs you will be learning about me. Perhaps I pick my toes? Or maybe I will reveal a deep, dark secret. Tune in friends!

Flashback Friday! Boo!

Happy Halloween! Oooooooooo! Woooooooo!

While getting ready to write today's post, I was trying to remember what my most memorable Halloween was, from my youth. And to tell you the truth, they all just kind of blended together. I remember having to trick or treat almost every year in snow up to our knees, various church parties, and certain costumes from my past.

Some of my most memorable costumes were my Little Red Riding Hood costume from when I was 4 or 5, my plastic witch mask from the 70's, and do you remember those dumb costumes where you blew up the head, that looked like some odd creature, and then attached it to the top of your head? Yeah, I sported that nifty costume in the early 80's. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of any photo's of me in a Halloween costume to show you. None! They are all tucked away in a closet, home in Wyoming.

I did, however, come across a photo that is just as scary as any other costume out there.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I know the quality of the picture is horrible, but I'm pretty sure the ugly is coming through quite nicely. Apparently, I was in the sun quite a bit more this summer, because my freckles grew in massive amounts. My teeth were incredibly slow to grow in, once I lost them, so there fore I was left with gaps wide enough for ships to pass. I believe the photographer slipped us some wacky tabacky... I look high as a kite.

Eee-Gad! Look what I just found a picture of... In fact, I was this particular Kooky Spook.

Even though I do not have any pictures of me in a Halloween costume, I do have a few from some of my friends.

Marty wowed the crowd with his costume! The "Bread Basket" turned out to be the trickiest Operation skill to conquer, due to the questionable location.

After Wonder Woman's tv series was finished, she fell into a deep depression and snacked on Little Debbie's, obsessively. We were all glad to see her use her
gold lasso of truth, again.

Xena... the Warrior Princess

Gaylord to the rescue!

And then there's Barney... You can't forget Barney! He dressed up as his idol, The King. Remember how Barney serenaded me, in a desperate attempt to get me to go to the dance with him? Good times, Barney. Good times.

As you know, some people do not need a costume to participate in Halloween festivities.

And I ran

I ran so far away!

Hazel got her panties in a bunch when some one complimented her on her costume. "I'm not wearing a costume!" she angrily scoffed.

(notice the lovely baggy panties)

BOO!
