Flashback Friday - Dance! Dance!

At the tender age of 6 years old, my dance career launched. The highlight of dance classes were the recitals and the chance to wear skimpy sequined attire and makeup! To this day I remember the dance steps to one of my tap dancing performances... shuffle step, shuffle step, shuffle step, ball change, shuffle step, shuffle step, shuffle step, ball change, buffalo, step, buffalo, step, paradidle, paradidle. Who named these steps?

Here's one of my most memorable costumes and I loved everything about, except the stupid ribbons woven in between my toes. Oh how I loved the flashy fringe! And the well placed, sequined, netted poof and ruffles... Don't get me started!

There were a large variety of dancers that also attended our dance studio that are well worth mentioning.

Shenaynay and Terrance were the envy of all of the dancers. They collaborated their jazz brains and designed their own costumes for the recital. Terrance topped it off by dying his hair with Koolaid. Kudos Shenaynay and Terrance!

Apparently our dance troop wasn't good enough for Eunice. She left the troop and joined the Solid Gold Dancers.

Oswald was our only improvisational dancer, a.k.a post-modern dancer. He liked to jig things up by adding "jazz hands" to his performances.

Lord of the Dance. Cliff was resourceful in many aspects. He perfected the grand jete (je-tay) while playing the pan flute and managing to keep his red bandanna loin cloth in place. Bravo Cliff!

Come on kick it! Ice ice baby! Word to ya mutha!

Sadly Thadeus was unable to return to dance after his unfortunate dance injury. Wanda felt horrible for her over-exuberant kick, that ended Thadeus' career.

Flashback Friday! LVHS Dance Pics

Here's another LVHS dance for the record books my friends! My good friend asked me to the Homecoming dance. He was my first "official" date, as I had just turned 16 the day before Homecoming. This fashionable frock was sewn by me, again. (I ended up sewing ALL of my dance formals/dresses except for one) Do you like the silky, Asian-esque fabric? It was on sale. I ended up putting on this dapper scarf in an attempt to camouflage the girls. Nice touch huh? My date ended up hooking up with a girl from one of his classes, and he left me high and dry. I didn't mind too much, since I considered him only as a friend. I spent most of the night, sitting in the bleachers. Paaa-thetic.

What the heck is with this pose?

The dance turned out to be a bust. The above date was not the only guy to ask me to the Homecoming dance. I probably would have danced the night away if I had gone with one of the following guys, instead.

Speaking of dance.... Maurice was well known for his dance moves. He placed 1st place in the "Lord of the Dance" competition at the local VFW. Dance Maurice! Dance! Sadly, I turned him down. I was fearful of the humiliation that would occur, due to my "lacking" dance skills.

I had the chance to go with one of the Olsen twins (not those Olsen twins), but they came to fist-a-cuffs trying to decide which one would go with me. Boyz, boyz..... we could have come up with a compromise. Both of you could have gone with me! A delightful trio!

AHHHHHHHHHH! No explanation needed.

Oh Phil... how I wish it would have worked out between the two of us. Those eyes, that glorious, red, fiery hair, and the stache.... oh the stache! These traits alone combined, made up a man to die for! Why, oh why, did you have to change your mind about me? The night would have been memorable.

Yet another chance is lost to attend a LVHS dance with this classy clique of young men.

Flashback Friday..... LVHS Dance Pics

Dances in high school were the bomb! In "White Trash Capital" one didn't get many chances to dress up, apply your eyeliner extra thick, and rat your hair higher than your dates head. I would say there is at least 6 inches of towering bangs floating above my head. For the life of me, I could not find this actual dance picture. (I hate it when I cannot locate important memorabilia!) My date wore a skinny, black, leather tie and his scuzzy old high top sneakers. Classy. This lovely dress was created by me with extra puffy sleeves and a lovely pink lace overlay on the skirt. I believed the puffy sleeves would give the illusion of me having a tiny waist. Back then I was freaked because I thought the lace stuck out too much and made my hips look large. Ya, look at me now! Jim (date of the year) bought the largest corsage he could find. It was as big as my boob and would keep on falling off all night, due to the sheer mass of it. My date did not "fast dance", so we only danced the slow dances. Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Lame. Music of choice was by INXS - Nothing Will Ever Tear Us Apart ! His mom loved me, because I was a "good" girl (ahem) and she actually ordered 3-D figurines of our dance pictures and placed them on a shelf in her living room. They were creepy and looked like paper dolls. I bet she secretly role played with them and dressed them up.

Jim (date of the year) was not the only one to ask me to this dance. Oh ya, they were lining up to ask me to go with them.

Corky began to pout when I turned him down. Sorry Corky, maybe next time.

Although Vinny impressed me with his gesture of shaving a heart in his fur filled back, I had to turn him down.

Ted's mullet was very alluring. Business in the front and nothing but PARTAY in the back! This relationship could've been a match made in heaven, but circumstances prevented it.

Warning: The image below may cause permanent damage to one's retinas. I just couldn't resist, it made me laugh.

Barney serenaded me with a classic rendition of Elvis' song You Ain't Nothing But a Hound Dog when he asked me. But the unnatural "camel toe" was the clincher. I just couldn't do it.

Just say no to camel toe!
(I saved the best for last)
As you can see it was a tough decision, but I do believe I made the right choice.
